Humboldt/Del Norte IEA Assistance Application

Greetings. My name is Sonny Tripp and I am the new Indigenous Education Advocate in Humboldt and Del Norte Counties. This position is funded through a collaborative partnership between the Northern California Indian Development Council, Inc. (NCIDC) and the American Civil Liberties Union Foundation of Northern California (ACLU-NC). My offices are located at the NCIDC Office in Eureka and at the Del Norte Indian Education Center in Crescent City.
 
I will be working with local Tribes, public K-12 schools, parent committees and community members to create a climate in the school system that provides educational equity for Indigenous children. In response to COVID-19, we are ensuring that the school districts are continuing to provide services to the Native American students and families. We are monitoring various schools in the region as they transition to online learning, assuring that families have access to curriculum resources, internet access and technology. In addition, we are also following the state and federal responses to corroborate that students who are on Individual Education Plans (IEPs) or 504 plans will continue to receive those services. In addition, we are working on helping parents document and be prepared to request compensatory educational services when classes resume in the Fall to make up for much of the missed continued IEP and 504 services not delivered during the school closures.
